Joseph B. Howard, Sr. is known to many as an apostle, preacher, educator, chaplain, writer, author, father, grandfather, and first and foremost lover of God. In short, Elder Howard is a servant called by God to do His will. Born in the red haze and coke dust of the Gary, Indiana steel mills, Dr. Howard loved and enjoyed reading and writing as a child. He grew up wanting to be a teacher but his maternal grandmother Johanna Berry prophesied his calling and said, “He will be a preacher/teacher.” Joseph Howard went to college and later joined the United States Navy, where he served proudly (Submarine Force). It was during this time that Brother Howard accepted the call to preach the gospel. He continued to serve in the military until he was medically retired after Operation Desert Storm. He then began his educational employment trek and worked in the inner-city schools for a time. It was during this time he founded Saints’ Home Church of God in Christ and began to pastor. Later, he went to work in the post-secondary field as a computer learning resource instructor and later as an English instructor. Elder Howard would then change the name of the church to Sovereign Grace Outreach after experiencing a restorational epiphany in his ministry and personal life. During this time in his life, he began to write down memoirs of his life not knowing that the Lord would begin to use this gift as a way of ministering to others. He is the proud father of Joseph II and Timothy Jordan Howard and grandfather of Francisco and Prynce Howard. This humble and blessed father of two and grandfather of two has a vision to incorporate the arts into the gospel/inspirational ministry for outreach purposes. Elder Howard was recently nominated and received an award for being one of the Arizona State Department of Corrections “African-Americans of Distinction for the year 2008”. He has received many awards over the years and in the military for work in the ministry. Elder Howard’s formal education includes a Bachelors of Arts in Adult Education, a Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies and recently earned a Doctorate in Christian Education. He has recently accepted the call to disciple ministers for pastoral assignment. This is his “latter day ministry” along with preaching and writing inspirational books. In addition to starting the Sovereign Grace Christian Center Outreach C.O.G.I.C. Ministries in the desert Southwest, Elder Howard will be hosting a weekly radio show on-line starting in the fall of 2008. Look out for more info regarding Dr. Howard's New release and future book and speaking engagements. |
